At Grand Ciel, Syrah has taken on a whole new dimension. Time honored traditional methods & modern French clones are combined with the unique climate & the sandy loam, volcanic-ash soils of Red Mountain. The resulting wine is one of great concentration in both fruit & terroir, yet our efforts have still managed to find the meaty, floral and focused characteristics of “old-world” Syrah.
Our 2018 Grand Ciel Syrah showcases lush dark fruits enhanced by a remarkable purity and focus - reminiscent of the incredible 2012 vintage. At the forefront of this exceptional wine, marionberry, red plum and blood orange fruits combine with an inviting smokey edge. There is a dreamy texture and weight to the single vineyard and clone effort that will not only excite on release, but will also show more complexity over the next 10-15 years.
