2020 Riesling
COLUMBIA VALLEY AVA
There is simply no substitution for vine age. Fruit from 47-year-old Riesling vines at Sagemoor Dionysus produced a wine of character and charm in the 2020 vintage. Classic Riesling aromas of flinty stone lead to notes of green apple, key lime, white peach, and nectarine. A kiss of sweetness balances seamlessly with the sturdy acidity. A true pleasure in its youth, cellaring patience will surely be rewarded.
Desire for discovery and endless curiosity are integral to the philosophy of winemaking at DeLille. The ambitious challenge in the cellar is to improve constantly through continuous experimentation with winemaking techniques, vineyard sources and wine styles. Riesling, one of the founding varietals of Washington State, benefits from the warm days and cool nights of the Columbia Valley, producing wines of generous fruit flavors, well balanced by brisk acidity.
When our friends at Sagemoor Dionysus, one of our longest-tenured vineyard partners, informed us they would be replanting their 1973 block of Riesling, we jumped at the opportunity to showcase the fruit from these revered older vines one last time.
