This single-vineyard Chardonnay, from Maverick Vineyard in the Yamhill-Carlton AVA in Willamette Valley, has a delicate texture and tight focus, exemplifying the uniqueness of the marine sedimentary soils of the site. This wine stayed in barrel for 16 months and was left unfined and unfiltered. In its youth the wine requires some air, eventually revealing aromas of Bartlett pear, Honeydew melon, briny oyster shell and Meyer lemon. The palate has layers of orchard fruits and a noteworthy minerality. The wine at first pour is somewhat austere, but eventually gains roundness and mid-palate weight supported by bright acidity. Lay this one down for a few more years to enjoy its full potential. N.B.
